Overview
Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) is a major challenge for health care systems around the world. There is an important opportunity to reduce avoidable morbidity and mortality through improvements to IPC, including during the COVID-19 pandemic. Infection control constitute standard practices that are essential to ensure safe and quality delivery of health care.
The goal of this course is to strengthen health workers’ IPC knowledge and capacity to implement facility-led IPC efforts and equip participants with comprehensive working skills necessary for the practice of Infection Prevention and Control.
This course also provides information on what facilities should be doing to be prepared to respond to a case of an emerging respiratory virus such as the novel coronavirus, how to identify a case once it occurs, and how to properly implement IPC measures to ensure there is no further transmission to HCW or to other patients and others in the healthcare facility.
The participants trained in this course will be the focal point persons for implementation of IPC policies in their respective health facilities and will guide the facility locally to implement the Standard IPC procedures and practices.
Format
This course shall consist of 10 mandatory modules. The Course will also contain some additional optional (non- mandatory) modules which the participants will have access to for further reading and upskilling. The course will be an online training which will be conducted using the LMS training platform of I-TECH. The training will be spread over a period of 3 months and will be a graded course. Candidates will be awarded certificates on successful completion of the course.
Learning activities will include: Watching lecture videos, Participating in discussion forums, Completing homework assignments, Completing readings, Taking weekly quizzes and Optional Modules
The format for each course will be an ideal blend of the above-mentioned methodologies so that the course is interesting and informative to all the participants. The course is taught in English. Participants should be comfortable with written and spoken English.
Eligibility
This training is intended for healthcare workers and public health professionals, as it is focused on infection prevention and control.
Faculty
An outstanding teaching faculty of infection control experts and experienced practitioners chosen for their expertise and teaching experience will conduct this course. These include specialist clinicians, public health specialists, technical experts, national consultants, Hospital infection control committee members, Nurses Training specialist, experts from NACO, CDC, WHO and other professional organizations. The topics covered will be highly relevant and up-to-date.
